Were you able to get the creases out? How?

That's what ruins the poster on the other side for me.

I think the image on the poster side is unflattering. The color looks drab in comparison to what it should and it's a bit cliche to park a fast car next to a fast airplane IMO. It's not as if the two have any direct relation to my knowledge.

I was acutally planning to frame the important side.

Stratoraptor posted a tiny thumbnail once of a much better image they could have used for the DA poster of that same car and plane. It definitely would have gotten my vote over the one they chose, as would a few of the other photos from the great book, like that overhead shot of the six cars (F1, GTR '95/'96/'97, LM & GT) or even the image I'm currently using as my avatar.

If you don't own "The Bible" (as it is referred to at times) and you're reading this thread, you really owe it to yourself to get a copy. Christmas is coming - put it at the top of your wishlists.

Thanks for reminding me Peleton. If only someone would let me drive one for a Christmas present...

I guess it was larger than a thumbnail, but I like this shot better. Anyone have a larger/better version of it?

I figured I would share it again because the thread where it was had the image embeded into the forum, and of course all those linked files are now dead and gone.

That pic doesn't seem to be any better than the pic on the poster. Both fairly poor...

Car's look best against nice modern buildings during the day or sitting still in the midst of motion ie. streaked neon lights at night. Agree?

You just like disagreeing with me...

Like I said before, but maybe it wasn't clear - I think this would have been a better choice than the one they used - however, not necessarily the best choice. I assume they wanted to use chassis #075 for a reason and there aren't many great shots of that car floating around. Of these two, I would take that one. It's certainly more vibrant and I think it is a better angle of the car.

= = = = =

NEWS FLASH!!

I noticed something for the first time about #075 when I dug up this picture earlier. It is the only F1 I can recall seeing that doesn't have the the thick black protective undercoating painted black along the lower edge of the body between the wheels.

I went and scanned my road car folders for others like that and surprisingly I found several. Beal's #042 didn't have the undercoating in a few early shots, but does in most of the later ones. Schaevitz' yellow #014 doesn't have it. The "Ueno-look" road car from Japan doesn't seem to have it from what I can tell. XP3 didn't have it originally, but does now that it's with Gordon. The same is true of XP4 and XP5 in their early shots versus the more recent ones.

It's very strange to find something like this after staring at so many pictures of these cars for so many years. You would think that even a minor change would immediately jump out at you. Considering this isn't isolated to one single car, I'm somewhat shocked that this is the first time I have ever noticed it.

Re: You know the Mclaren F1's 'spoiler'.....

Possibly the coating is there, but the owners elected to have it painted in the body colour?

Naaah, I just like disagreeing with you!

Seriously, what I wrote about the pic does not contradict you...at least not IMO. I said both were fairly poor pics and you say this one's better, but agree that both are not great poster material. So where's the disagreement? And where's that mountain-out-of-a-molehill icon!

Possibly - but I'm going to say no...

Looking at the poster of #075, which gives the best representation of that section of any of the cars I mentioned, it shows no line where that thicker protective coating would typically start. Others may be different.

i think the 3/4 view of the f1 is by far the most sexy angle to view the f1 at. it shows so much more of the cars curves, features, and design, that you just cant get with a standard plain ol' side view... i had to throw design in the equasion so we're all sure im talking about the f1, and not a girl ... but i agree with peloton that the photo he posted shouldve been the poster choice, instead of the one that was. in fact i really think that the photo at the end of DA with the 7 different variations of the car would have made for an excellent poster! ... btw, do you think maybe the one that was chosen was done so for a reason, like they wanted to showcase the f1 in sort of a duel/drag race type setting up against the jet? to illustrate how phenomenol the car is by pitting it up against one of britain's fastest, most elite fighter jets? just a random thought... but as far as backgrounds for f1 photography, id say any background similar to where the 'clinic model' was first photographed, excellent photos, or any shot of the f1 clearly leaving any other "supercar" in its wake like the one peloton posted recently of the enzo getting by the f1... what a great shot... would love to see that video... its lurking around out there somewhere...

Re: You know the Mclaren F1's 'spoiler'.....

The side view is nice enough for me to hang it up versus the stats. I definitely agree that there are more flattering angles, however.

As for the creases, as soon as I got the book I flattened it on a table for about a month. It's decent.
