hopefully it's not an external seize up like the ac compressor clutch a few posts up... mebbe add a pressurized shot of ac oil into the system? the one's walmart/other parts stores sell to connect to the low-side system?

Just replace the belt. Then if it still does it place a new thread. If the new belt does not work then it is probly you ac clutch going out.
