Re: Exhaust guy's pissing me off

Damn jethro. Someone ratted you out!

I will say that I agree with both of you. If you get a tune and nothing else, the truck will for surely perform better than stock, with no other mods. But then if you add intake, exhaust, and so forth and so on, of course the truck will then perform better than it would stock, or with just a tune.

I have been told by many other ASE mechanics and VERY knowledgeable people that ths stock MAF is good up to 500hp. Personally I wouldn't waste the money for an aftermarket one unless I had forced induction of some kind.

There my . Im hardheaded so there's no use arguing with me unless I can see proof.

LongIslander..... So you've done this longer than the hills are????? If you know all and have all the answers please lead your own forum. As far as the MAF goes these things go well into FI before they need a new, upsized, better MAF. All trucks and cars will run better with new performance parts. A tune is a great start to take advantage of what you have. You do not need to buy new parts to get a return on a good tune. If someone does a tune for MPG you don't need to add aftermarket anything to make your existing engine to gain mpg from it's current potential. Please come over to my house and school me just because someone said your certified. The statement is a tune will make what you have run better. Done!
What's this big hangup with the MAF?
What part of "MAYBE a MAF" are you not understanding? "Maybe" implies that you "May" or "May NOT" need one. That was my statement, and any first year lube rack newbie knows that a tune PLUS parts will give you more performance than just a tune alone. It also wasn't "Somebody" who said I was certified, it was ASE, a Nationally recognized organization for technician certification. Get over it and move on already. Done.

Normally if the EGR system remains functioning (As in you don't disable it) that will help to not allow burnt valves to happen.

close but no cigar

shorties help low end torque
but are not as effective up top

Long tubes effect higher RPM flow but will lower low end torque

Thanks for the advice, I'll look into it.

Maybe I should rephrase that long tubes will give you more overall performance gains than shorties.

Look and see;
