Exclamation 2000 chevy metro lsi where is the fuel filter

Hi
I have a 2000 chevy metro lsi 1.3L automatic. I had it into firestone for a tune up and fuel system flush because the miliage was really bad. They got everything done but couldn't find the fuel filter. They did some checking with some people but no one knew where it is. They don't have internet.Does anyone know where it is and how to get to it? The car has 68165 miles on it. I have heard that the filter only has to be changed every 100,000 miles. Either way I need to know where the filter is and how to get to it. I need to let them know something asap so they know what to do with the car.

According to the Haynes Manual for your car: "The fuel filter on 1999 and later models is located inside the fuel tank and doesn't require periodic replacement." Haynes Repair Manual # 24075 page 1-31; 35,1

I also have the same car (2000/1.3L). I also have the factory service manual and it does say that the replacement interval is 100K miles. To get at the filter you need to remove the fuel tank from the vehicle and then remove the filter which is inside the fuel pump/sender assembly.

Bit of a pain to do it - I don't look forward to doing it when it reaches 100K which is not too far off for me!

If you don't want to bear the expense of replacing the fuel filter at this time, it probably isn't necessary at your current 68165 miles, unless there is an unusual problem. I am nearing 130,000 miles in a similar car and haven't noticed any of the clogged filter characteristics, such as surging when passing a truck, or not being able to go above 35 mph etc. My biggest mpg gains have come from engine tune-ups, Transmission fluid changes at recommended intervals, Mobile 1 Synthetic Extended oil, wheel alignment, proper tire pressure, and driving 55 on freeways. I can get 35-38+ mpg with an automatic combined city/highway driving.

There is no formal "tune-up" procedure for the 2000 apart from replacing things like filters and the spark plugs. The 1.3L engine does not even have a distributor - the sparks are created by the ECU based on the crankshaft and camshaft position sensors. If you are getting bad gas mileage and don't have any engine codes present just have them check and replace all acessable filters and the spark plugs. What soft of gas milage are you getting. The gas milage figure is somewhat ambiguous IMO - it really depends on the driving style, the kind of terrain you are driving on etc. I live in quite hilly area and I'm sure that messes up my gas milage compared to someone who drives on flat terrain.

most of the guys here in So-Cal have installed a nice little in-line filter at the firewall. Go to your local parts place and get the correct size filter, or order from summitracing.com, or whatever and install in-line before the throttle body.

Yes, I get poor gas milage as I do have a heavy right foot and also keep kicking into second frequently to power up hills. On the freeway usually between 75 and 85. Around here you would probably get pulled over for holding up traffic if you did 55. I consiently get around 28-30mpg but I'm not suprised.

Don't see how the in-line filter is going to help unless you take the original filter out. Since the fuel gets to the the orignal filter first it is going to clog up at whatever rate is would have done anyway. And if you have both it may restrict the fuel line. SO not sure how it is going to help - maybe I'm missing something.
