Can't fit drum over new rear shoes

The subject pretty much says it all: I can't fit the drum over a new set of brake shoes (rear, 91 accord).

The adjusting screw is all the way in, and the links on the adjusting screw are seated properly (or, at least they look like the other side which I left in tact so I could compare, just for this reason).

Any suggestions?

Thanks!!

Re: Can't fit drum over new rear shoes

Is the emergency brake completely off? Also check that the clevis is properly installed. The notch has to be facing outboard. On the other end, (the adjuster end) there is no notch but it can be installed incorrectly. The clevis is the thing the adjusting screw is attached to. The spring also installs around the clevis.

The emergency brake is all the way off, in that the lever in the car is all the way down.

The notch is facing out on the non-adjuster end.

It looked like the adjuster-end clevis was symmetirc and couldn't be installed incorrectly: maybe I'll check that tonight and try it the other way.

Any more suggestions?? Thanks thus far!!
