1992 Grand Am 2.3l, start problem HELP!!

I just got a 1992 Grand Am from my aunt, because she got a new car. I want to find out what is wrong with it, and possibly fix it. I am good at working on cars, I am just new to Grand Am's, and newer cars in general.

Anyway, the car acts like it wants to start. Everytime you turn the key the motor fires, and runs for about 1 second then dies. It will eventually start, but it may take 10-15, even more tries. Everytime it does, the motor shakes also. To me it sounds timing or spark related. When the car is running, it runs and sounds pretty good. It will idle fine, and won't die. Seems like it has plenty of power. But when you shut it off, you have to go through the whole "trying" to get it started again.

Anyone have this problem before, or know what it could be? I will do a regular tune up when I get the chance, but I am going to pick up a repair manual for this car.

Thanks for the help!
