Thank God I'm Alive

I got new tires on my car 2 weeks ago from a small shop near my house. A few days ago I decided to drive from Kentucky up to Michigan to visit family. I'm about 3.5 hours down the road... cruising 75 miles an hour down I-75.. All the sudden car starts shaking real bad.. I slow down to 55.. doesnt help it smooth out.. so I slow to 45.. All the sudden there is this jerking and thumping.. I pull over immediately. Car is smooth while pulling over. I wonder if maybe I can drive to next exit, I put the car back in gear while on the shoulder. Drive about 2 feet and its jerking and thumping really bad.. Well, gdi.. I'm in the middle of nowhere and its pitch black.. I can't see anything. I flag someone down who takes me 5 miles to the next exit.. When I come back to the car in the morning, I can see that the right rear tire is barely on the car.. 4 out of 5 studs are broken off, 1 is bent and that is the only one holding on the tire.. There are 2 lugnuts jammed in between the rim and the wheel, with half studs still in them.. I had my 4 children with me in this car. It's so scary to think about the possibilities. I'm still in shock over seeing that tire practically off the car, the stud that was still through the rim, the lugnut was 3 turns from being completely off... FREAKY !!!

Did the studs break or did some dum-ass forget to torque them after screwing them on by hand? What’s your guess on how this happened? Did you have any work done to the car recently? I’d like to know ‘cause I really don’t want that happening to me.
