1996 Subaru Impreza, Any Chronic problems?
Hi, I am new to this Subaru forum.
I am considering buying a 1996 Impreza (one of many used cars I am considering) to replace my failing 1985 Monte Carlo. Does anyone know of any chronic problems with this model that I need to be aware of? Will I be always fixing defective parts? (I am also considering the '94 & '95) Is there another year & model that may be more reliable? I would greatly appreciate any advice you can give me. Thank you, Clyde Howell |

'96 is a good year, no major problems with that gen that I am aware of.

A well maintained Subaru will last forever. The sheet metal may rust before the engine dies. The Impreza is extremely reliable, I've owned 3 that have been sold and still have 2 we drive regularly. My wife loves her 1995 AWD sedan at 100,000 miles, it hasn't had any major problems. You may need to replace the front axles and wheel bearings, especially if the car has seen some snowy winters.
