Tires and Rims- just starting

Ok all now this is going to be a preety unguided question since IM kinda lost at the moment. First of all I have a 99 G20t, titanium silver. I have had it since decenber and I love it, well the other day I actually got my first flat- I was at a little loss since this is my first car and Ive never changed a flat before, either way I got the flat fixed when I went in the tire guys told me that the tire had been patched up twice before and to not trust it for more then 5,000 miles (needless to say I was pissed, but i guess in my dream world I assumed that the dealership was gonna HOOK me up with everything sorta new) Ok so now IM in the boat of wanting to sooner or later get tires, but if Im going to get tires then I might as well go bigger since Im sure in the lifetime of the new tires that Im going to also want new rims.
So now Im at the point that Im sure u all were at, which rims to get? Well money is sorta an object , but more then that is keeping the car with a look of classy and smooth. I like the stock rims, I just dont like there size. I think I would like to step it up to at leats 17". I also dont want to get anything to crazy and flashy- so all chrome might not be the route for now at least- I was thinking of chrome and silver ( similiar to the stock rims) I feel that the silver goes really well with the flat color of the car (any comments?)
So now the question is where do I start looking (sites, stores, anyone can recommend places in NJ or NYC)What should I be looking for? Are there any disadvantages to getting bigger tires/rims?
Anyone have silver and chrome rims, wann brag about them, got pics?
Any help is appreciated, and G20 it up all day.
