Hey all, i have a 98 cherokee and whenever it rains, it leaks onto the front passenger side floor. At first I thought it was the winshield and I talked to a few people about it and they all agreed. So I had it resealed. I thought it was fixed until today when it started raining and it was dripping pretty bad. I traced it from up back behind the glove box. There is some foam and a white piece of plastic and when i moved the plastic a little a waterfall came out!!! When I open the hood it looks like water is going into the fan right behind the A/C. Has anyone had this happen to them??? Where should I take it to get it fixed? My normal mechanic? or an autobody/detailing place? help! I dont want to drown in my car!!! thanks!

Re: My jeep is leaking water whenever it rains!!!
I wondered where that water was coming from.
I used a garden hose to test the windshield and found no leak. My guess is that the fresh air intake has a water drain hole at the bottom that is clogged. The airbox usually has a similar water drain hole on its bottom, and sometimes dirt and water make mud and clog it up. The question is how to find this drain and clean it. Do you take off the metal grill around the windshield wipers, or can is be reached from under the Jeep? I will take a look tomorrow. Was your Jeep parked facing down hill at the time? |

It was parked up hill slightly. So i moved it and parked the other way and it stopped leaking! could it be the fan assembly under the hood? or do you think its that air vent?

As far as I can tell, that air vent is the intake to that fan. Its the same thing. The idea is to pull fresh air from outside the engine compartment, so any water that falls in there must drain from some spot on the bottom of the fan box. |

check the drain hose or hole for the a/c condensor. my moms olds intrigue had that happen to it. the condensor drains to a little panwith a hose to drain the pan but the hose was clogged by a spider web and some junk in there, and would soak the front of the rug on the passenger side. i donno if rain water can get in there but its another place to check.

Re: My jeep is leaking water whenever it rains!!!
my dads nissan truck did the same thing, the drain was plugged, everytime he turned left, water would pour onto the passenger floor, the whole heater core or whatever it is called was filled with water, it must have been plugged for a long time, and we wondered why the blower motor quit.

When yall figure out what is going on let me know too, because I am redoing the entire interior and am at a hold up because I can't figure out why my floor is always wet and I dont want to ruin the new carpet.

I have the same exact problem ...
The reason I am sure it is the A/C is because ....
The winshield is brand new because I just replaced it and made sure it was sealed well .... If you don't want to buy a new windsheild or pay to reseal it then .... Here's a tip if you have a leak in your windsheild you can leave it outside on a hot Texas day.... Crack some eggs and seperate the yellows for the whites ... The pour this around the edges of the winsheild ( on the outside ) and let it fry . Then trim off the excess and viola no more leaks .... Now with that said .... I replaced all the seals around the doors. ( yes the rain rails too ) I have parked it up and down hill and noticed it happens more when it is up hill... I have even ripped out all my carpet and isulation and dynamatted the whole inside ( yes the roof too ) Then I rolled in the spray n bedliner stuff ...So it it leakes then oh well... What I did notice is that when I would go on long trips lets say 6 hours or more and I would run the A/C the whole way then I was getting the water in my floor board .... So it has to be the A/C drip pan that is clogged ... I am gonna try and get it out this weekend and will write more when I get it fixed ... |
