I have a 1995 Grand Am GT 3100 SFI Automatic 4 speed and I want to change it to a manual 5 speed. I was wondering if any of you out there know if the isuzu 76mm 5 speed manual transaxle that was put in the 1995 Grand Ams with the 2.3 DOHC Quad 4 will work with the 3100 SFI V6? Or if that wont work if you have any suggestions on what tranny to use? Thanks

Re: isuzu 76 mm manual transaxle
Welcome to the forum. It won't work. I'm pretty sure the 65te has been used though on 3.1's; because even though it's for the 3.8's, they're both 90 deg V6's, and they used the same tranny in some years.

I always thought that the 3100 was a 60 degree engine. I know the 3800 is a 90 degree. What are the gear ratios on the 65te tranny? do you know? I am looking for a direct bolt in for my 95 Grand Am. If The ratios are different is there anything I can do to the tranny or the computer to correct the speedo? Thanks

Both Cavalier and sunturd had a 3.1 with a 5speed in the early 90's, should be plenty of them hanging around in the yards....
