Question isuzu 76 mm manual transaxle

I have a 1995 Grand Am GT 3100 SFI Automatic 4 speed and I want to change it to a manual 5 speed. I was wondering if any of you out there know if the isuzu 76mm 5 speed manual transaxle that was put in the 1995 Grand Ams with the 2.3 DOHC Quad 4 will work with the 3100 SFI V6? Or if that wont work if you have any suggestions on what tranny to use? Thanks

Welcome to the forum. It won't work. I'm pretty sure the 65te has been used though on 3.1's; because even though it's for the 3.8's, they're both 90 deg V6's, and they used the same tranny in some years.

I always thought that the 3100 was a 60 degree engine. I know the 3800 is a 90 degree. What are the gear ratios on the 65te tranny? do you know? I am looking for a direct bolt in for my 95 Grand Am. If The ratios are different is there anything I can do to the tranny or the computer to correct the speedo? Thanks

Correction, the 3800 is a 90 degree motor, BUT the 3100 is a 60 degree motor like the 3400. I would check out www.60degreev6.com I think most people that do a 5speed swap in that motor use something off an old 2.8 or 3.1 predecessor.

Both Cavalier and sunturd had a 3.1 with a 5speed in the early 90's, should be plenty of them hanging around in the yards....
