Possable to do a tranny swap like egine swap?

Ok, heres the thing... i am very attached to my 92 RS, partly becuase its only had 1 other owner, and ive had it since 94, but mainly, becuase my father bought it for me just a couple years before he passed away, so i dont plan on getting rid of it anytime in this lifetime.
The thing is, its an automatic, i havent done anything to it yet, i plan on do the basics, tb, headers, cold air, etc, etc.. as soon as i have a better flow of cash. But right now, im not to happy with the acceleration, it doesnt feel like a manual does, you all know what i mean.
I think this sounds stupid, but is it possable to put a manual tranny in an automatic car?
How would you put the clutch in, the new shift cluster, all that stuff? Is it even possable?
What do i need to know, ball park guess on what it will cost me, and will it be worth it really? ... if its even possable
Its a 305 lb1 with just 73k miles on it, right now im doing body work, getting my cowl hood, etc, then ill probably move under the hood, ive just always been wondering this

Re: Possable to do a tranny swap like egine swap?

yeah its very possible. you could put a 5 or 6 speed in it, but 6 would be better. you can find the stuff you need at either ebay, hawksthirdgenparts.org, or fbodymotorsports.com

talk to drivingstorm, he put a 6-speed in his car, although i'm not sure if his was auto beforehand.

you could always put a transgo shift kit in there.

I'm getting the 6 speed myself but just wondering, what's a transgo kit?

manuals are for fun... autos are for getting down to business (auto-x withstanding)

ya mine used to be an auto...

the link he posted really does outline it perfectly, you will need to cut a hole for the shifter, a hole for the slave cylinder to mount to the firewall, new pedals, shift console, crossmember...

plus sense you have an RS you will also need to remove the speed sensor buffer, and put in a module to reduce the vehicle speed sensor signal. plus you will also want to mount two switches to the clutch pedal, one to make sure you need the pedal pushed before you can turn the engine over, and another to turn off the cruise control when you push the pedal

Re: Possable to do a tranny swap like egine swap?

With the transgo kit, is that the kit that makes your auto act like a manual? As in when you put your transmission into 2nd gear, YOUR IN SECOND. Cuz Im going to want to do that for my 700R4 right before I put her in.
