Re: Re: Re: Re: Auto zone Cat.Converter
I hope that's it for awhile..I called 2 places for quotes. Meineke wants $290-350 to replace. Another 100 or so for the sensor if needed.
Quietzone wants $280 for replacement not including sensor. They both said I could drive it by and they could look and probably tell if i needed sensor or not. How do they without hooking up a machine and testing it? I think one of them mentioned looking at the wire hookup..hmmmm Quietzone also quoted me 185 for a Universal fit. I asked what is the difference in that and direct fit? He said some of them tend to be louder then Direct fit and they usually have to do some cutting etc...Any Feedback on this is appreciated Quote:

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Auto zone Cat.Converter
$290-$350 I hope that includes the price of a cat. If you brought your own part into our shop we would charge $75 plus any gaskets or bolts. By looking at the O2 sensor they mean looking at how much rust is there, not inspecting the tip. Since there are no cat codes its working properly but may not come out easily.
If you look at that pic of the exhaust system I posted on the first page you can see a flange with 3 bolts at the front and back of cat, that is a direct fit. By universal they would be cutting it out and removing the flanges on the front pipe & middle pipe, welding or muffler clamping the new one in. |

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Auto zone Cat.Converter
Yes that includes a direct fit cat. But not the sensor.Would you chance using the old sensor with 107,000 miles on it? It is another $90.00 or so.
I took the car to Quietzone and he put it up on a rack. Put some kind of device at various points of the converter. I think he said the rear or front of the cat was real hot, but one end was not. Asked me if i had used a additive or had bad gas at all. At any rate he said the converter was bad and would not be able to tell me about sensor until he worked on it. Been driving it a month now. Think i need to get it done asap. Am i imagining that the car is a little louder now? Quote:

Why the 2 names?
It's hard to say about the sensor. I've replaced cats with more miles and had no problems with the O2 sensor and other times the sensor is shot. It wouldn't hurt to replace it but if it can be saved, great. Hopefully they are honest and go from there. The cat does muffle some sound so if it's falling apart inside it could be louder. |

I went to get the Catalytic Converter today and it had not come in as promised. By the way...The light went off again 2 days ago.
I asked the garage what if I changed the Converter and then Sensor and still had the light, how would we handle me paying 350 for repairs that did not work. He said I could do a $ 50.00 test that would give a good idea....Hmmmmmm...I explained my money situation (lack of) and he said to just drive the car since the light went back off. As I said earlier the car is driving fine. My question is....Could I get the Code PO420 and it be something else or maybe just a clog in the converter that could unclog? I hate that the repair is not 100% a sure way to fix the problem.. |
