I say go for the 2.2... You can never go wrong with a bigger motor .

The F20C and the F22C have the same horsepower. The F22C has more torque. The F22C also has a lower redline.

There are plenty of parts coming out of the F22C, and a majority of the parts are interchangable between the F20C and the F22C.

Re: 2.0 or 2.2??

I belive they changed from the 2.0 L to the 2.2 L was due to Honda wanting to make the car appel to a wider audience, and thus lowering the red line. Other then that i belive they are pretty much the same. There is a great article about the 2004 S2000 in Sport Compact car, when the 04 first came out.

Yeah, they upped it to 2.2 to add more torque, and lowering the redline to make the car more "daily driveable". The original motor, you had to rev the piss out of it to go anywhere.

So, is there that big a difference between the two engines? Performance wise, is the 2.2 liter engine better? I would prefer the lower redline to get power earlier, but I don't know if it's worth buying a more expensive post 2003 S2000, or just getting an older one with the 2.0 liter engine. I am thinking of buying an S2000 in a few years. I am definitely not buying a new one; I want to buy a used one because of the lower price.

Re: 2.0 or 2.2??

get the 2.0 and buy the 2.2 borkit for it, you'll get the higher redline(which i consider a good thing), and the tourqe, the 04+ also had some differences in the tranny, i know the gearing is shorter in the later, but you can buy new gears too.
And if you go with a 00 or 01, you'll save enough money do to the mods.

That's probably not a good idea. The reason they lowered the redline was because of the increased stress at higher speeds. I've read online that you can only safely run an F22C engine at 8,500 RPM, anything over that will eventual cause damage. There are alot of tuners that run it at 9,000, but they do not intend to keep these engines for the long term.

If you're short on cash then go for the 2.0L engine. It has the same amount of power, but because it has less torque you need to rev it higher to reach it. They also changed the gearbox for '04+, shortening the first 4 gears, and lengthening 5th and 6th. Either way you go, you can't go wrong with an S2000
