The strangest thing happened..

Hey, today while driving around town my cars chime went off, so i looked at the gauges and at first i thought oh crap im out of gas, cuz thats usually why the chime goes off. but this time, it said ANTI-LOCK. and so i kept driving. then out of nowhere my digital odometer starting phasing in and out, the green numbers were fadding and coming back really fast, along with the lights on the radio. and they kept doing this for awhile until i got where i was going, and shut the car off. It hasnt done this since, but it has done it a few times before also but i didnt think anything of it. so if somethings wrong with the breaks, what would explain my crazy lighting problem?

I'll bet you're having an issue with either your alternator, which are crappy on Alero's, or something pertaining to the grounding of the battery or corrosion of the battery cables. Its definately electrical though.

Re: The strangest thing happened..

thats odd becuase i noticed right after i got my brand new battery put in (not even a month ago) at stop lights when the car was idle the odometer lights would flicker a little bit along with the radio lights. ive never seen it do that before, so do you think NTB put my battery in crappy? or could it still be the alternator?

I would "guess" you got a defective battery. The "guru's" at Autozone should be able to hook it up to there wizard machine and be able to tell you if your battery/alternator is at fault. Hope this helps.

Re: The strangest thing happened..

I'll bet you $50 bucks its the voltage regulator, which unfortuanately, is built into the alternator. I had the same issue on my Malibu. The Alero's and Malibu's use the same alternator. About a week before the alternator completely died, the dash lit up like a Christmas tree...then a few days before, I got the ABS light along with flickering dash lights.

I had the same prob last year. It was a bad cell in my batt, in term made my alt go bad. replace both. my car did this down by 150th by the strip bars. I had it towed to spitzer, plust i know a ton of people that work there, i had them fix it.
