Lightbulb Any suggestions for better sound in my '99 Taurus?

Hi all,

I recently posted for advice as to where I could plug a 6 disc changer in the trunkof my new (used) '99 Taurus.

I received good advice...ty Lynde!!!

My next question is this .... How can I achieve a better sound w/ stock equipment?

I did not buy the disc changer yet(used from ebay or car-partdotcom).

I would prefer to keep the stock console intact.

Any suggestions for better sound would be greatly appreciated!

P.S. as w/ most people, I am not filthy rich...so my options are limited

there is no way to improve your sound system without upgrading your equipment. You can either use an aftermarket head unit with the stock speakers, the stock head unit, a line converter, an aftermarket amp and aftermarket speakers (best solution with stock head unit), or the stock head unit and amp and aftermarket speakers.

All will improve the sound of the system

Re: Any suggestions for better sound in my '99 Taurus?

My two words are Sony X-plode. I don't think that a new head unit from anyone would improve sound much, but put in speakers better able to produce the sounds they get from your existing head unit, and your sound system will sound way better. The only thing you'll have to bother is the speakers, and it's just an out-with-the-old-and-in-with-the-new thing, but be sure the impedence of the new speakers are no less than the impedence of the old ones (that's often 4-ohms though). You only need an amp if you want more volume.

I'm fairly happy with mine, but I realized a big improvement by putting a bass tube one the rear armrest and holding it down with the seatbelt. I pulled my sound from the rear speakers with a voltage devider and run that signal to an amp to push the bass tube. (It's only 100 watts so you don't have to worry about that bothersome boom-boom from me. )
