Unhappy Strange noise.... please help!!!

I have been noticing a strange sound only when I accelerate above 40mph on my 02 forester. Its not a vibration, but almost a rattling sound. The subaru dealership says they dont hear anything, but its driving me crazy!!! Please help

Mate, i have had the same problems, and it is only
once revs reach a certain level (around 2500 rpm).
However after a lengthy discussion with my mechanic
we discovered that it is rocks caught in the
breather holes in the heat shield around the exhaust.

We had something similar to what Julian mentions happen on our 2001 Forester, the stones actually caused the welds on the heat shield to break too, but was easily fixed.

If you can get under your vehicle when it has been standing for at least a couple of hours, check all the heat shield on the exhaust.
