Haggard Backwoods Drifter
Okay, this project came about thanks to Revells new 55' Chevy Street Machine kit, the engine is soo horrible I didnt have the heart to put it in a fine classic automobile, so I found this RX7 kit at my lhs for $4 (had to be 20 years of dust on the box) so I decided to stay true to my modo: "If it can have a Chevy small block, it should have a Chevy small block" and build something different. Well to be honest im really not liking the blower so Im thinking about swapping it out with a plain jain 4bbl intake and carb. I'll post more pics when I get any further along...

Re: Haggard Backwoods Drifter
Pretty cool! It's a Tamiya, right? Does this kit come with the rotary engine?

Re: Haggard Backwoods Drifter
No, that looks like the Revell kit. This is going to be neat. There was a real FD RX-7 with Chevy SB that came autocrossing with us once, but the radiator fell out. I guess zip ties weren't the high-grade JDM parts needed to keep a big radiator in place during racing.... Neat project, keep us updated!

Re: Haggard Backwoods Drifter
You need to modify your motto a bit: If a car exists, it's had a smallblock in it
... great start!

Re: Haggard Backwoods Drifter
yeah this is an old monogram kit. its actually a nice kit, has a carbuerated rotary, nicely detailed. but yeah i found an intake and carb for this so the blower is gonna go.
p.s. shoulda used duct tape instead of zip ties...lol

okey dokey, heres a little update.
Im just wrapping up the suspension/chassis, and ive hit the body with a coat of primer just because im tired of looking at the eye-sore red that it was cast in. I found a suitable intake/carb/air cleaner and threw the lame blower into the box of despair. Even with the much lower profile top end, its still too much motor to fit under the hood so I decided the most conservative way to deal with it is by making a cowl hood for it. Ive started the cowl shape and will be stopping by my lhs to get some styrene to form the sides soon. I'll post some more pics when I get some more done. but heres a couple pics til then... ![]() ![]()
