what preventative things should i do?
Hey everyone i was just wondering what preventative things i should do to the Alero, i changed the air filter at 25,000 really needed it, am planning on putting a K&N on next change, but is there any other preventative measure i can take to help it run better like get the tranny drained and filter changed or get the fuel filter changed? The reason i am asking this is because this is my first brand new car and am not sure what i can do to it at 30,000, i want to start it off right to help prevent problems later on down the road. Thank you and any advise will be greatly appreciated.

I would replace the air filter a little more often. As for other items, change the fluid and filter in the transmission and the fuel filter. You may also want to check the fluids in the brake reservoir, power steering fluid, windshield washer and radiator overflow tank just to make sure the levels are proper. You may want to change the oil if it is due. Also would be a good time to check tire pressure and if the wipers are originals, a new set would be a good idea! Just a few items to consider!!!

Re: what preventative things should i do?
don't worry about bad experience owners. i bought my 2000 alero in 2000 with 1700 miles which makes it around six years old. i am a pretty good car detailer and i don't know much about working on cars, but! i can honestly say that i am a professional prevention mechanic. start by keepng a clean engine.that way you can tell by sight if something doesn't look right such as oil leaks etc. if something don't sound right, get it checked out. while you are there ask any questions even if you think it's a stupid one, i promise you you won't get a stupid answer. follow your maintenance book as close as possible. and last but not lease.the less people driving your car the less problems you'll have. don't take this to the bank but i think the car gets use to the owners driving habits.than if you start leting other people drive it, it gets confused.that's my theory. if you were to see mine. you would think it was last one off the line in 2004. the only things i've changed since was the front disc brakes, the oil (with air filter every other oil change) on regular bases. and the transmission oil which you have to be careful with. i probably did'nt need one at 50,000 miles. avoid gas station mechanics if possible. an oil and gas treatment twice a year surely can't hurt.(popular brand only and stick with that brand) GOOD LUCK!.
