Can I swap an AX4N for a AX4OD
I own a 1999 Taurus and have recently purchased a 1996 Taurus for parts. The transmission in the 1999 Taurus does not always want to shift into overdrive causing the engine to rev at 3000 rpm instead of 2000 rpm at 100 km/hr. I would like to know if the transmission in the 1996 Taurus (AX4N) and be installed in the 1999 Taurus to replace its AX4OD. Or if there is an easier fix for the 1999 Taurus transmission.

Re: Can I swap an AX4N for a AX4OD
yes, but you'll need the ECU from a vulcan powered taurus originally equipped with an AX4N (The heavy duty package). These are fairly difficult to find.

How do I know if the 1996 Taurus that I have purchased has the Vulcan motor. It is just the regular 3.0 litre, not the DOHC.

Re: Can I swap an AX4N for a AX4OD
if the car you purchased has a non-duratec V6 (known as a vulcan) and an AX4N you made a very good purchase as you got a very rare Heavy Duty taurus. If it is such a taurus, then you can just use the ECU from it.
