Re: Takeoff Question

gun the gas... I don't launch from anything other than idle... I'm afraid of cooking my clutch... gotta keep the car in the torque range... the e-brake does help... depends on how long you wanna hold the burnout... don't go any higher than 2nd gear... foot in the floor all the way is not always best... I constantly adjust accelerator... enough to keep the tires smoking... but not to max out... raise it up and drop a little... don't keep at redline... especially if you haven't changed oil, taken care of car, etc...

Re: Takeoff Question

you prob. are also pushin more hp in yours than i am in mine. i've got to get stronger clutch. i was thinking about going with a stage 2 and a fidanza flywheel. i was thinking about a stage 3 for a while but i think that would be kinda overkill considerin i'm only pushin about 250 hp in my stealth right now.

You're kidding right? You may be just now pushing 220 crank power, and thats pushing it. The DOHC's really are only at like 210hp. Your mods may add a grand total of 10hp. NO ONE really needs a 6 puck till you start making huge power. I got a ACT full face that would even work if I did a 10:1 TT swap. Its got plenty of holding power.

Re: Takeoff Question

ya, listen the Stealthee.

you don't need a stage 2 clutch. the stocker is fine. adn your mods, as said, might give you 10hp...at the crank. and given about 210 crank hp stock, say 220hp MAX at the crank...when you think of effective horsepower (horespower to the wheels), it would be around 170-185hp (20%-30% drivetrain loss).

so you can spend a butt-load of money on upgrades that won't give you anything just b/c it sounds cool to say you have a stage 3/ stage 2 clutch...but just think about it first. think practically.

Re: Re: Takeoff Question

Not only do you not need a 6 puck, alot of people dont want a 6 puck. Especially if they do a lot of city driving. You'll burn one up fast as hell if you try to slip it like a full face. I really didnt NEED the clutch I got, but I wasnt putting in some crappy Advance Auto clutch, I have seen what happens to them. And I wasnt waiting to order one from Mitsu. I got a good friend a sale, got the clutch in 2 days, and got myself a nice feeling clutch pedal. But it just figured, the clutch went from a very small slip one day, to a full out slip in 3rd gear going up a hill the day I got my tax refund back. Damn car knew I got money and was jealous.

How a/b mine, I've got a SOHC, intake, exhaust, and soon to have turbo... should I keep stock clutch, or when having tranny rebuilt get a stage2... b/c I'm gonna throw the Fidanza lightweight flywheel in there... and I am actually running enough hp to walk the DOHC (when my transmission works)...

Listen. I've got a decently modded SOHC and I am not "walking" DOHC's. I have beat personally a few DOHC ATX's in the quarter. My times have beat alot that I havent raced. But with the power difference once speeds hit 90+ the DOHC is gonna pass the SOHC. Its a fact of better flowing heads and different power bands.

Now as for the clutch you still only want a full face. Like I said I am running a ACT. It can hold 400ft lbs of torque. There is a kid with a DOHC 10:1 TT with DR500's and he has the same clutch upon reccomendations. SO I dont think the SOHC is going to putting a hurting on that clutch.

Re: Takeoff Question

oh yeah, I'm talking a/b off the line... usually a/b a quarter... I'm walking the DOHC, it's not usually until right at the finish that they start catching back up... when I got the car, it had a stage 3 racing clutch in it... I b/c it was ACT... I don't really recall, then the damn master cylinder went out and fried that clutch... so now I have a LUK repset in it (a stock with maybe a little more holding power)

Re: Re: Takeoff Question

OK, I just wanted to clarify. Usually "walking" is what happens in a roll race.

Re: Takeoff Question

no I can usually take them then too... for a bit... It's not hard for me to mess with the stock SL's... but if they add a couple of mods on, then I can't usually do nothing to them...
