Doors off in California ??
Hey y'all. I just have a quick question. I just moved to San Diego and i've been driving around lately with the doors off. I keep getting all of these weird looks, and I've also noticed that there are no doorless Jeeps. Is it against the law, or do i just need to relocate the mirrors???

Re: Doors off in California ??
best thing to do is contact your local police and ask them about it. I'm not familular with CA's specific rules, but in most states, you have to have at least one outside mirror, as well as the mirror on the windshield.
there are lots of options, you can get brackets to relocate your stock mirrors, or you can get compleatly new mirrors that mount to the door hinges, or ones that mount to the windshield hinges. actuaily, I just saw an add in the back of a 4x4 magazine for www.ridecraft.com they have mirrors that mount to your door hinges when the doors are off.

Re: Doors off in California ??
As long as its stock your alright, and if nothing obstructs your rear view you should be fine. However Cali has some messed up laws especially Workers Comp/Safety and Construction. I would install a fabricated mirror setup onto the hinge part on the body, then you would be totally fine. But to be safe you should phone up the Cali Highway patrol, or local copper.

I bought my Jeep In San Diego in 2001 and had no problems with my doors off. I picked up some "cowl mount" mirror mounts at 4 Wheel Parts in Chula Vista right off of 5th St. and I believe Main for about $20 and haven't had a problem since. The mounts just relocate your factory mirrors to your windshield hinge bolts. The only problem is you can't see the passenger side mirror with doors on (if you have full doors) unless you reinstall them back to the door. Hope this helps.
