Cool 160 amp alternator from AC?

http://www.4x4parts.com/public_html/...2232af1a6f87e3

$329 for the 115amp

http://www.4x4parts.com/public_html/...2232af1a6f87e3

$535 for the 160amp

Not a bad deal for the 115 considering a remanufactured facory alternator is $204.43 from http://www.nissanparts.cc/cart/?pn=23100-4s100r

Now if they can just find a way to mount that $500 Amp a little higher so it doesn't get dunked in the mud.

The regulator on the 160amp alt. is externally mounted. Meaning that you can mount it up and out of the way. This should solve the shorting out problems alot of us have had.

I've been thinking about going by a local automotive electrical shop and see if they would be able to "rewind" a stock alternator to get the higher output. Anyone one know if this would be possible?

The Premier Power Welder has a 160 amp alternator that fits "most imports". The alternator alone is $500 + $30 for the saddle-mount option. If you want the full welding system, add $300 (or $500 if you want to upgrade later). It has a "Premier Voltage Regulator" with a heat sink, etc... but I'm not sure if its external or not. I'd shoot 'em an email if you're interested.

There was a guy where I used to live who would do this. I knew a couple of people who went there and we're really happy. I don't remember what he charged, but it was a lot less than I would have expected. He had a little shop and lots of jobs just from word of mouth. I guess the short answer is yes.

Yupp. I don't remember the his name. I don't think he even advertised, just got business from word of mouth. He had a little shop next to his house. I'll see if I can get him name from one of the guys who went there.
