jetta tie rod or wheel bearing trouble?

I own a 97 jetta that is having some issues in the front right wheel area. I originally thought the sounds it was making was the brake dust cover rubbing on the brake disc. I removed it but the noise continued to get worse, a high pitch squeaking sound especially when I made left turns. Then I noticed the right tie rod joint was leaking grease. Then the noise became squeeky with a low relatively slow revolving noise like the wheel bearing would make. It also started making the noise when i was just driving straight. could this all just be from a tie rod joint. it doesn't sound like the clicking sound that a cv joint makes. any help would be much appreciated thanks.
