help!!!!

Hello, I am a 16 year old, and i just got my first car 2 months ago on my birthday. I have been experiencing a problem with the gas gauge, and I was wondering if anyone could help me. The needle on the gauge is stuck way past full and will not move. I was told there was a problem with my floater, so I went to the Chevy dealership and Autozone today. The guy at Autozone told me that they don't carry the stuff to help me, and the guy at the dealership said it would cost 700-800 dollars to fix, which is money I really don't want to spend. I was wondering if there is a way to fix this problem, if it is even worth fixing. Oh yea, and my car is a '96 Camaro RS. Any ideas or advice??? Thanks a lot

Re: help!!!!

you have to take out the gas tank (which is a bitch in that car) and then go inside and replace the float and sending unit. You might just want to check the wires from the sending unit first, they should be the only wires going back to the gas tank.

Re: help!!!!

Just reset the trip meter everytime you fill up, and fill up every 300 miles. Cost: Free.

Re: help!!!!

You should fill the tank, drive 200 miles...fill the tank again....write down the amount of gallons you put in the second time and divide that into the milage you drove since the first fillup...
