headlight dissasembly on 2002
i was wondering if anyone knows how to dissasemble the headlights on a 2002 silverado safely (without breaking the clips)
I am not talking about removal, i am wondering about dissasembly -taking the clear plastic lense off of the entire assembly .... Thanks for any input PS-is there a type of sealant around the plastic clear lense? I went muddin, and the lenses filled up with water, and now are just 100% mud...i ran water and windex throught the bulb hole, but the liquid just evaporates and leaves a lot of dirt. Any suggestions? I want to be able to wipe the inside of the lense Thanks

Re: headlight dissasembly on 2002
Reading a thread on another forum and they stick the whole headlight in the oven at about 175*. Once it gets the black silicone warm you can pry the two pieces apart. Have your replacement silicone ready to reinstall.

Have you thought about getting some off ebay. They usually have new, aftermarket, and used ones. Just a thought.

What about just removing the assembly and cleaning? Remove the bulbs, put water in it, and clean, either with a rag or foam on a bent coat hanger. Or you could stuff a small wet rag in there with a little water and dish soap and shake it. Blow them out with compressed air afterward.
Just a couple of silly ideas, but seems easier than taking them apart and regluing...

Seems to me that if you open them up to clean them that you'll sacrifce the integrity of the lenses and you'll have a repeat of the problem every time you go offroad with it. Might be better to do like they said above and buy some new ones....just my

Re: headlight dissasembly on 2002
WHat if you hold the light up Lense towards the sky and shove a hose inside it. Then water would splash off the lense and run down the reflective material and out the hole....
Must be some pretty thick mud.??

Re: headlight dissasembly on 2002
The factory silicone does not always seal in the outer corners, mine leaked on my '01 and I took clear silicone and fixed that after finding a brush that was long enough to bend and scrub the inside surface. The dirt gets baked on the inside with the heat from the headlights. No matter which way you go, new or repair, adding silicone will help.....
