98 civic stereo questions
The cd player that is in my 98 Honda civic EX is a nice cd player but it does not played burned cds at all. I heard that the keyless entry is tied in with the radio. Is there a aftermarket cd player that will go where the current cd player is that I can purchase to play burned cds? Maybe a newer model civic would have such a cd player. What is the best way to replace the cd player while keeping the existing radio etc. since it is a large part of the middle console, ripping it out would make it look empty and dumb.
Thanks in advance. |

Re: 98 civic stereo questions
Just wondering if I can buy a newer model civic cd player and swap it in so I dont have to change anything, anyone know if this is possible, are they the same size form factor?

Re: 98 civic stereo questions
I'm pretty sure the CR-V and the Civic have the keyless entry unit installed in the radio, so if you change components it will probably effect the keyless entry. I don't think the Honda option CD player will play the burned discs either.

Re: 98 civic stereo questions
I already know that, read my first post! What do I need to install so I can have a nice cd player and have keyless entry. Option two would be to buy a newer model Honda cd player and just swap it with my current one, they maybe just as expensive if not more than option one. Anyone have a answer for me on how this need to be installed/what hardware i need.
thanks |

What a lot of people do is to move the factory radio under the dash still pluged in and put an after market cd player in its place.
You could check junk yards or the dealership for newer honda cd players to see if the connections are the same if you do not feel like going through the hassle of installing after market.

Re: 98 civic stereo questions
you have to keep your stock radio in in order to keep the keyless entry. (let a profetional drop it behind the dash and hook up the rest).
most if not all aftermarket sterios will play burnt CD's i would recommen getting a cheap pioneer radio that will play your burn CD's and MP'3. you may be able to find one for around if not under $100.

Re: 98 civic stereo questions
You don't have to have a professional do it for you. Search this forum for 96+ Civic CD Player install or something like that, it's been covered a lot and I know someone has posted a step by step how to for it.
