Speedometer problem part 2

i bought a gauge cluster at a junkyard for 20 dollars for my 94 civic. it has 30K more miles on it than my car actually has. are these things easy to turn back, or would I just be opening a can of worms if I went messing with it?

Is 20 dollars reasonable for one of these?

Just swap the odometers so the one with the right milage is in the car. I've never seen a honda odometer thats been rolled back, but on other cars I've seen wierd problems with them, like springing halfway back to the real milage, and crap like that. I think it's only 2 screws or something simple to get it out and you have to pull both clusters out.

Re: Speedometer problem part 2

Do a search over at honda-tech, I saw a thread over there that showed how to do it (with some rigged up drill).

Re: Speedometer problem part 2

i tried pulling them apart, do you know how I can get the front of the cluster off without breaking the trip odometer reset knob? Then how do remover the speedometer needle?

i'm thinking i'm going to say the hell with it if it is not that easy. with as many miles as my car has on it, what is another 30K.

Re: Speedometer problem part 2

do not take the speedo needle off or just swap odometer. all u need to do is take off the 3 screws in the back and swaps the speedometer assembly. to get trip reset know u have to pull the rubber(fells like plastic) cap at the end. just becareful and just twist it gently pull on it and it should come off. is just a little rubber cap. after u get that cap off u need to get a couple screw drivers and try to seperate the black part of the cluster from the white part(front/back). u just need a bit of patience and to press all those black tabs, sometimes u can pop the top off a bit and the bottom should pull out. if u get me a pic of a cluster ill show u excatly what im talking about

Re: Speedometer problem part 2

don't have a way of getting a pic to you. I'll give the "rubber cap" on the end of the trip resetter another try. I was thinking maybe the whole stem came out, so it sounds like i've got to hold the stem and twist the cap.

I saw the screws on the back, but they didn't look like something that would allow access.

I'll give that a try again also.
