Re: Window Tinting, Rear - 96 Cav.
If you do a crappy job it will look like crap. But if you take your time it will look fine. I've done 3 different vehicles that have rear defrosters and never have had a problem. The trickiest thing is double curved windows and getting wrinkles out. Use LOTS of soapy water, do a strip at a time, and slowly work out all the bubbles with a rubber squeegie or a piece of plactic. I prefer old credit card-type pieces of plastic.
Now removing old tint from a rear defroster is another story...

Or you could always just put some black vinyl over the dot matrix if it bubbles.

If it's of concern, be sure to check local laws regarding the use of opaque "tinting" if you go the black vinyl route. Some areas require minimum light transmittal or not allowing tinting below a certain point.

Mine didn't bubble up, you have to pretty much spend some extra time, going around the bubbles...like heat it with a heat gun...fairly hot so it de-expands around the little dots. Mine has no bubbling what soever. I used Solar Guard....quite possibly the best tint out there. Don't fade to that nasty purple color and has a lifetime warranty.
oh ya and i can't say this enough....when dtinting your windows, take your time and it will look better. So if you have a whole day or half a day to spare, take the whole day doing it. Trust me, it will look 500 times better than if you did it quick. |

If it started to bubble after a year. Don't take yours to that same place.

I just got my windows tinted about a month ago. The back has already started to come off the dot matrix. The guy that did it said tint won't stick to that so all tint will eventually come loose from the dots. He said most tint places just leave that part. It looks like crap that way though, having a big gap without tint. I have noticed cavy's around with the gap there though.
