Yes, you can put a 4.6L Mustang engine in your Thunderbird.
Do you have the 3.8L V-6 or the 4.6L V-8 in your Thunderbird?
What year is the 4.6L Mustang engine?

Re: 4.6 mustang engine

i have a 3.8L in it right now. i dont have a 4.6 engine yet i was making sure that i would be able to do it before i went and got one. what all would i have to do if i put a 4.6 in it? like rear end changed or any of that stuff? and what year do u think would be the best to put in it, and the best place to get a good one but not for a lot of money

Just off the top of my head ...
A 4.6/5.4 transmission, drive shaft, ECU (computer), engine wiring harness, fuel lines from filter to engine.
I know there is more, I just can't remember what they are.

While it is possible to swap in a 4.6L Mustang engine, it's a lot of work & money.
You would be better off to find a '96/'97 Thunderbird/Cougar with a 4.6L already in it,
then swap in a '02 or newer Explorer all aluminum 4.6L.
