Post Brake Lights on all time on 87 Sunbird

Hi,
My name is Spanky and i have a 1987 Pontiac Sunbird and i recently tried putting a new head unit in it. While we were putting the head unit in, my gf asked me why the brake lights were on when the key wasnt on or in the ignition. So i assumed that i crossed a wire while wiring the head unit in. Too bad i didnt i unhook all wires and they were still on. So i looked and made sure all the wires werent touching and to say i was right none were touching. So now im stumped and do not know what is wrong. I know that the car has an factory amp for the radio and i just am so stumped of why just the brake lights are on. Could it be a wire or could it just be the switch behind the brake that is sticking? Could someone help me pls feel free to email me at [email protected] I would love to figure it out so that it wont drain my battery. Thanks alot to whoever helps me. It would be much appreciated.

Much thanks
Spanky

Re: Brake Lights on all time on 87 Sunbird

The brake light switch is on a bracket by the brake pedal. When the pedal is depressed, it releases the switch, which turns the brake lights on. If this switch comes out of adjustment, the pedal doesn't push it back in to shut the lights off when you release the brakes, causing the brake lights to stay on all the time.
