1996 GrandAM Horn.
Hey, Great Site.
I have a 1996 Grandam, 123,000km on it, barely any problems with it. The horn isn't working correctly. When I took it to a place, they checked the fuses, relays, etc......but they wouldn't take the steering wheel apart to check in there because of the airbag. what could it be?. Could it be an expensive cost?. I'm not a mechanic , but could I just install a horn in the engine box, and wire a button into the dash?. I know it might sound amussing, but it's just an idea. Thanks for your help. Regards. |

If you have access to a wiring diagram, find out which wire goes to the horn switch, pull the bottom dash panel out from under the steering wheel. Pull the steel plate out as well. This gives you access to all the wiring under there. Find the wire the diagram tells you is the horn, jump into it at a connection and test for ground when the horn button is pressed. Stay away from the wiring thats coated in yellow as thats your airbag wiring. If you have ground when the button is pushed, then the horn is probably bad. Test for power at the horn, and test for ground as well. If the horn is bad, they are easy to replace and not that expensive. If the switch is bad, the airbag has to come out to change the switch, take it to a dealership or a mechanic that is experienced in working with airbags.

Hey.
Thank you very much. If that is the problem, behind the airbag, would that be an expensive problem to fix, or basically just not worth it?. I just need that fixed to get the safety done on the vechical. Take Care, and I really appreciate your help!.
