4.7L TB, Intake Manifold, and Cams

I'm looking to upgrade my stock 4.7 with a BBK 70mm TB, Mopar HO intake manifold and either Mopar HO Cams or KRC HO 200 cams...

Any opinions? Pardon my ignorance, but are there any issues with these (especially with fitting) on my standard 4.7l?

Thanks for any input!

Oh yes, my Dakota is a 2002 QC with a K&N FIPK II, JBA CC Headers, modified Y, 3" HF Cat and 3" Magnaflow exhaust.

Re: 4.7L TB, Intake Manifold, and Cams

With the HO intake, guys have been complaining about the lost of low end power from it. Because the intake is designed for mid-high rpm power. I would stay away from it!!

With the HO cams or KRC 200 (which are the same), you wont see much of a gain. It's only worth doing, if you do the install your self to save money.

If you want to really notice a difference go with a KRC 206 cam which is good for low-mid rpm power. Gains are 36hp and 66ft/lb at the crank, with a custom flash!!

BTW, there's no issues. The HO parts will fit a regular 4.7 motor.

Thanks Dakota00. I was considering the 206's as well just didn't want to mention everything.

To clarify, are the stock intake manifold and 68mm TB good enough to use with the 206 cams? Also, what flash do you recommend?

Re: 4.7L TB, Intake Manifold, and Cams

I like to know more info on your Dak, is it stick or auto?? What gears do you have?? LSD?? Is it 2wd or 4x4??

One of the best power gains can come from a computer tuning. KRC or Mike Leach Co. are the best from what I hear.
If you do go with the 206's, I would also get a Fastman 70mm TB and the Mopar H.O. intake.

Have you relocated the IAT sensor and adjust the TPS sensor?? Get rid of the clutch fan and add a 180 stat. These little things will help in the big picture!!

Re: 4.7L TB, Intake Manifold, and Cams

Anthony,

My Dakota is an auto 4WD with 3.55 gears and LSD. I haven't done the sensors nor 180 stat yet; I know the 'little things' all add up. I also suspect a good custom PCM flash would add power (advance timing) and firm up the shifting. Just getting more air/fuel mixture into the cylinders is my goal now.

I can replace the gears or tranny when I want/need to, or even add a supercharger down the road. I'm just trying to get the most NA performance enhancing mods done now with what I have.

Thanks for your help.

Re: 4.7L TB, Intake Manifold, and Cams

Adding a trans go shift kit to your tranny will make it last longer and run cooler. Plus it firms up the shift, my buddy's Dak chirps second gear!!

Adding 4.10 gears would also improve your take off. But it will cost a lot of money when you have to do both front and back. That would be last on my list in my opinion.

Seeing you got an intake and exhaust work done,

I would do the following, this will really wake up your truck:
206's cams
Custom flash
Fastman 70mm TB
H.O. intake only if you use 206's cams
180-stat (cheap)
adjust TPS sensor (free)
relocate IAT sensor (free)
Remove clutch fan (free)
Trans-go shift kit

Later,
Anthony
