Do you have to remove the dash to remove the stock head unit?

to get the door panels off gm makes a tool to get the manual window crack off? where can i get the tool? i heard you can use a coat hanger but i cant even see the clip that needs to be removed.

Yes you have to remove the dash and yes GM has a tool to remove the cranks. I don't remember where I got mine from, but its possible to use a screwdriver. Thats what I used before I got the tool.

any auto parts store would carry it, its a very common tool

a piece of fabric also usually works. Just stretch it tight between your hands and work it in behind the crank.

the hanes manual says if you don't have the tool to use a rag or something, i did this once tried again couldnt get it, just push in on the door panel a bit and look down, i used a small screwdriver to pop it off

Would a string work? Also after you pop it off, is it hard to pop it back on again?

If it's anything like my brother's toyota corolla, it's much harder to get off than it is to get it back on.

its much easier to put back on then take off. To put it back on just put the u-clip back on the crank and press it back on.

another quick question, after i get a new deck and install it, wont it leave a gap(s) between the new deck (top and bottom of it)? how do you get rid of the gap(s)?

The difference between these two is how far out from the dash they stick out. You could also find different ones at audio shops or wal-mart. I recommend going to an audio shop and getting one. They have some that won't stick out at all and may look a little better.

This is one I got from my local car audio store. It don't stick out at all. Except I kind of have to reach to change the volume or track of the cd. But, I just bought a new battery for my remote for it, and make it a little bit easier. Allthough, i don't hold on to the remote the whole drive somewhere, so I could just reach over and change the volume on the deck rather than looking for my remote and then picking it up and pushing a button to do that.

The only way I think a remote for a car stero is usefull is if your car is parked on the driveway, and you are sitting behind it on some lawn chairs with some freinds grilling some steak and drinkin come beers or soda, whichever you prefer, and instead of you getting up to turn it up, you can use your remote.

Don't mind my cow I have hanging there. It was one of those that you'd squeeze and that gel type stuff would come out it's butt and go back in. Just so you all know, it is no longer there, along with that airhorn that is seen laying on the floor.
