Angry 2000 Jetta EPC?!!?

2000 Jetta GLS VR6. So I'm driving down a busy street today when the engine all of a sudden stopped running!!! I couldn't get it to start agian... The Battery light, check engine light and this mystrious "EPC" light all came on. I got someone to push me to the side of the road. I was ready to call a tow truck then car miraculously starts! So I thought nothing of it thanked the guy who helped me and drove off..... 5 miles later AGIAN!!! The car was still moving so I managed to roll myself into a parking lot where I finally called for a tow. SO the service shop at the dealership is closed until monday and none of the reps there even know what this "EPC" thing is.. Has anyone had this problem? Do you know what it is? How to fix it? Helpppp :'(

Epc

EPC, Electronic Power Control. It maybe a short of some sort, some kind of lack of power, unless you can pop the hood and see an obvious problem, such as corosion on the battery, its probably best to take it in, it normally would kick into a "backup" source, instead of just dying. I could be totally wrong with this but i just wanted to give you some sort of idea of what could have caused the problem until one of the more experienced guys got on here.
Later Robert

Thumbs up Re: 2000 Jetta EPC?!!?

ahhhhh ok. So I'm wondering since the engine just stops running while I'm driving and the batter light come on do you think it might be something to do with the alternator? I took it in to the dealership but they're taking forever to just look at it. I'm trying to brace myself for the bazillion dollars they're gon charge me.

Re: Re: 2000 Jetta EPC?!!?

That was happening to me (I have a 2000 Jetta VR6) when the MAF and Cat were bad at the same time. I ended up replacing the MAF to get rid of the "dashboard christmas tree" and had to replace the Cat to get rid of the CEL light. The oxygen sensors did squat, but it was time since they were original and I have 180,000 miles on the car.

Re: 2000 Jetta EPC?!!?

are any of those indicator lights on constantly now since that happened? usually those lights will come on when the car is shut off or stalled. if you turn your key to accessory and wait a second you will see that those are the only lights that stay lit. the EPC light is the electronic power control mine came on one day and it turned out to be the brake light switch.
