Odd problem

I parked my car infront of my friend's place..Came out after 7 hours...Car cranks up but would not idle....just dies on pressing the gas...Can hear the fuel pump kicking in...starts up every time but would die... Weird part is that the odometer light will not go off even after switching off the ignition which was not the case even while i parked the car.
