Remove and replace transmission governor

Where can I find a schematic that shows how to replace the governor in a neon 3 speed automatic?

Currently the car will shudder real bad and just before you come to a full stop the trans will pop into first gear. I have checked the shift cable and it is in good working order. After inspection of the trans, it appears that the governor has chunk broken out of it. I changed the trans fluid & filter right away, and everything else is working just fine. Before I take this thing in to do a full trans re-build, I thought replacing the governor may solve the problem. It looks like you can remove the cover plate on the side of the trans, but do not know how you pull the shaft the governor rides on.

Re: Remove and replace transmission governor

From my 99 FSM...

"The governor can be replaced by removing the the transaxle oil pan and valve body assembly. The governor can be unbolted from the governor support and removed from the transaxle for reconditioning or replacement.
When cleaning or assembling the governor, be sure the governor valves move freely in the bores of the governor body."

If you give me your email, I can email you the PDF of the neon transmission.

Re: Remove and replace transmission governor

actually, how do you go about getting that thing out of the way...as well, if you do take it out, do you have to put it back in, in order for the car to run? does it really need it?
