Exclamation Automotive dimwittery

My next question is: Why do auto manufacturers want to "buck" the system on proven technologies. One example of what I am talking about is that engines that breathe easier run better, and get beter #'s and MPG. A K&N style intake and some medium to long tube headers are what I am referring to, yet auto manufacturers STILL insist on using restrictive intake and exaust systems. Their cost to manufacture these types of things at the factory and install them on the prouction line would probably be about the same as what they currently produce. I don't really understand it, especially in this time of expensive fuel and people wanting a billion miles per gallon.

Re: Automotive dimwittery

EPA, longevity-cost ratio, what market are these trucks really filling, cost to design and engineer a new body with a small amount of lemons???? To name just a small few....

Now if it were up to us we would fill a different set of desires/needs......

Re: Automotive dimwittery

I can think of two reasons:
1. Most people prefer a "quite" automobile as opposed to a more noisy one (even if it gets better miledge and has more performance for the buck). They don't understand or cherish the "rumble" of a fine machine. Thus, they make first and formost what will sell the most to the general public.
2. Doing it "right" the first time would kill the aftermarket business. They just can't have that!!!
So, we the knowing, have to pay for the "unnecessary" then spend even more to get what WE want. Of coiurse, the advatage of the current system is, most of us have a vehicle that probably no one else has. That makes us insightful to quality trucking and one-of-a-kind type of people!!!!
