How bad are the 96 Sonatas?

I happened to spot n ad in the local newspaper for a 96 Sonata. The ad doesn't give a lot of detail, it reads:

1996 Hyundai Sonata. 6cyl, loaded. 295000 kilometers. 800 obo. Inespected til May 06.

So, it has the 3 liter Mitsu V6. Is the same oil burning V6 that the Dodge Die-nasty had? My mother had an 89 Dynasty with the V6 and it was pure hell. Also, what about the transmission? Is there any similarity between the tranny in the Hyundai and Chrysler's wonderful A604 Ultradrive? That had got to be one of the worst pieces of automotive engineering ever released to the public. If it so happens that the tranny in the 96 Sonata is the same as the older Dodges then I'll happily walk away, but if it isn't then I will give the Sonata a look. I do find the exterior styling of the 95-98 Sonata to be really attractive, seriously. I'm just so nervous about Hyundai's mechanical parts. Hyundai Pony/Stellar/Excel anyone? Maybe I'm being too harsh, because I know in the late 90's Hyundai's quality improved considerably, to the point now where they are just as reliable as any Japanese car. If anyone can give me the lowdown on the 96 Sonata, and any particular spots to pay close attention to, I will go and give it a lookover tomorrow or Sunday.
