3400 out of 01 monte carlo
I was going to replace a shot 2.8 to a 3.4. The 3.4s out of camaros are hard to get a holf of without having 140 k miles on them. I inquired about a 3400 out of a monte carlo with only 26 k miles the price is only 500 bucks. I was reading a few web sites that infered that the compression ratio would be way off, and reccommended new pistons to bring back to 9.7 cr. What is the cr if you interchange heads and intakes of the fiero on the 3400? is there a intake manifold to use the aluminum heads and react with fiero ecm?

The 3400 OHV is a great Fiero Swap Engine as a complete unit. Way better performance and gas mileage. I put one out of a 2000 Pontiac Montana in my 88 Fiero with 5 speed. I won an award for this swap at the 20th aniversary in Pontiac Michagan a couple of years ago. E-mail me if you have any questions.

Re: 3400 out of 01 monte carlo
I have never seen anyone attempt to run a late model SFI intake with aluminum heads off the Stock MPEFI ECM. I have seen people drop a stock Fiero cast iron head and EFI system onto a 3400 block, and it seemed to work fairy well. In theroy, the 3400 should be downgradable to regular multi-port, but there would be a substantial loss of power. However, it would still be a decent gain over the original 2.8.

Wanted to buy: 86-88 Fiero GT, 5 speed, fixer-upper. Blown motor, no motor? No problem! Rusty unibodies need not apply. 74-79 Ramcharger or 100, slant or no motor - not interested in v8 - Overdrive 4 is a big plus, NO hopeless rust buckets!!! 3Rd gen F body floor pans/camaro door skin (L) Why is it I see so many "Proud to be an American" bumper stickers on the backs of cars made in Japan or Korea??????
