Angry 93 Ga Speedometer Jumps

WHAT COULD CAUSE SPEEDOMETER TO JUMP FROM 0 TO 80 AND 0 TO ALL #S BETWEEN. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME BUT VERY FREQUENTLY. NO OTHER LIGHTS ON OR GAUGES SURGE ONLY SPEEDOMETER. CAR RUNS SMOOTH. HAS HAD EARLIER PROBLEM WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID HOSE EXPLODING W/ FLUID EVERYWHERE. ALSO AT SAME TIME RADIATOR PROBLEM. ANY CONNECTION? THAT WAS BACK IN MAY?. PLEASE HELP. ALSO WHAT EVER FIX THEY DID TO RADIATOR THEY SAID A 300.00 JOB WOULD HAVE TO BE DONE BY WINTER. ANY WORDS ON THIS? I SUPPOSE THEY CHGD A THERMOSTAT.

Sounds like the vss (vehicle speed sensor) is bad, probably got soaked with transmission fluid. Its an easy fix, located on the top of the transmission and has a 3 wire electrical connector going to it. As for the $300 radiator job, they might be telling you to replace your radiator, if you are handy an aftermarket one can be had for around $120 or so...
