Steering wheel clunking

If im going to be the engineer on this one then i had better remove the shaft completely and get a birds eye view on things before i go drilling a hole.
I just read about the quick fix olds has for this problem and when i read that its temporary also,well then there has to be a better way.Im learning in my journey through life that big corp.'s don't always have the answers.just look at how many car owners are left in the dark time after time.common sense over rocket scientist sometimes prevails.thanks for the replies and will take pics then take small coarse on learning how to post the pics.
