Acetone Fuel Additive Update: 3MPG Increase!

Well, if everyone was around a while ago, the big thing for saving fuel was to add 3oz of acetone to every 10 gallons of gas in your fuel tank.

Here is the link:

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...hlight=acetone

I said what the hell and I introduced 6oz to my 19 gallon tank and recorded the difference.

I travel the same routes all the time and all driving is similar to the last tank.

Here are the results:

City Fuel Economy Before: 13.7mpg

City Fuel Economy WITH ACETONE: 16.8mpg

This is ridiculous.

Discuss amongst yourselves.

Almost makes you wonder why the hell it's not already a fuel additive... but then again, why would they want to do that?

I think I'm gonna try that out myself.

Re: Acetone Fuel Additive Update

Yip, just add 6oz to you next full tank and reset your odometer.

Drive normally.

This might take three or more tanks so the computer gets to relearn.

Reset your computer if you want it to learn faster.

My girl is going to kill me when her acetone is gone! She will just have to deal with her fingernails painted the same color for a while!

Re: Acetone Fuel Additive Update

BlazerLT, What is acetone? Isn't it a solvent? I remember back when Gasohol (gasoline and Alcohol) was mixed and sold. It came with a warning to watch your fuel filter as the alcohol would tend to cause residue (varnish?) from inside the tank to dissolve and end up in the fuel filter. Might want to be aware of this in case the acetone does the same thing.

The acetone thing has been well known for years. The issue is that aceton e carbons up everything, it will also eventually chew on rings and dry out rubber seals... It's a far worse solvent than gasoline ever could be.

I got to thinking about that after I posted my first post. Could acetone do anything to a fuel pump?

Alright so here is the million dollar question.... Should we or should we not try this? I am extremely curious after BlazerLT's results. Cause you know with the new hurricaine by Sunday gas will be almost $4 dollars a gallon again!

Completely Wrong

Acetone is an octane similar to toluene, xylene and others that are used for octane ratings. Acetone has an octane of 150.

It doesn't cause carboning.

It doesn't eat rubber and plastic, it might swell rubber in 100% pure concentration, but it doesn't EAT IT.

Use it if you want, but don't crap your baseless opinions on my thread. Saying that it carbons up engines is the first hint that you don't know what you are talking about. Are you saying higher octance fuel carbons up plugs? Wouldn't that then decrease fuel economy then? Yes, it would.

It works and I am saving money and getting better performance.

If you want to use it, go ahead, but if you don't, I won't tolerate a bunch of naive people coming in a putting it down when they don't have the balls to at least try it out themselves.

Put the Acetone in first tank, will do an average over 5 tanks and let ya'll know. (reset the computer too)

If I get to what works out to be almost 100km more per tank... yeah baby! I can handle that.

Wasn't there a thread on here where someone soaked parts in 100% pure acetone for months and took them out and nothing had been damaged? Meaning plastic and rubber parts? Maybe I was day dreaming again. Who knows

Re: Acetone Fuel Additive Update

Yes BlazerBoyLT98, the link to it is in BlazerLT's first post. The guy soaked some parts in acetone for close to a month with no problems.
