Unhappy 2002 Explorer Sport Trac 4X4 Engagement Issues

2002 Ford Exploer Sprt Trac, 4 Liter V6, 4X4. Recently I tried to engage my 4x4 via the dash switch. It engaged but when I disengaged it and later needed to re-engage it nothing happened. No Light. No Locking of the hubs. The fuses seam OK. Is there a good source for diagnosing this issue. In reading this forum ot appears it could be a motor or the like. I need a source of both electrical diagram and mechanical diagram. Is there a dounloadable souce for these? Any suggestion for fixing this would be apprechiated.

I am currently having the same issue. I have pulled my electrical motor and tested it. It seems to be working as it should. Did you ever find a solution?

Yes, it turns out to be a fault module. I can get the system to engage but usually only if I pulls the fuses to the 4X4 system, wait 10 seconds and reinsert them. I had a Ford dealer do a test and they confirmed the faulty module. I will replace it befor the winter.

I forget the exact name of the module, but there are 2 4X4 modules on my truck, located under the passenger side dash on the firewall. One of these is faulty in my system.

Engagement Issues

I have a similar problem and have been unable to resolve it yet. I have no power to the front wheels when in 4Hi or 4Low. The transfer case motor is OK as it will shift into Low range. When the truck in on jackstands I can stop the front wheels reguardless of the selector position.
What Fuse number did you pull to get it to work? Maybe a discription as noted in the Owners Manual would help me. I can't seem to figure out which fuse you are talking about.

The 4WD functions are controlled by the "GEM" module.
