2002 Grand Prix - Electrical problem (I think)

My 2002 GP has 48k miles. Bought it used from dealer 6 months ago. No other problems to date. Twice now, and one month apart, for no apparent reason both the speedometer and tachometer needles went dead, down to 0, then minutes later perked back to normal. Engine, everything else was fine the entire time. Two other additional separate instances, one week apart, the low fuel and low coolant lights flashed on briefly for a few seconds, then off. Again, no other engine or other related problems. Has anyone run into this before? How serious might this be? Do I need to run right down to the dealer (I am mechanically challenged), or can I wait for a convenient time?

Thanks in advance, Ken

Re: 2002 Grand Prix - Electrical problem (I think)

I would check your battery and all your cables to see if you have a bad electrical connection somewhere. Until you said the engine seemed fine, I would say it was a crank position sensor, but when they go, it will usually cause the engine to stumble. If all your electrical connections and battery cables are clean and tight, you may have a BCM going south, as many guage functions run through the BCM.

Re: 2002 Grand Prix - Electrical problem (I think)

well last month mine was doing simmilar to the same, all my guages went dead and my interior lights blinked rapidly, i thought it was the BCM (body control module) but i just ended up taking it to the dealer and it turned out to be some ground wire that was shorting everything out, might be the same for you but not too sure, just thought id give you an idea maybe. i know those electrical problems are a pain in the a** hope i was some help.
