1992 BMW 525 Wagon MPG Hints
I thought I would share with every one what I did to my newly owned car to get more MPG. My engine is a M50:
1) Replace Tranny Fluid and filter. Be sure to drive it for 20 minutes and then check fluid level. This account for 4 MPG city and highway. 2) Get some contact cleaner and trottle body intake cleaner. Use to clean all the sensor contacts you can find and the trottle intake port: a) Mass Air flow sensor b) Throttle Possition Sensor c) Transmission Gear Selector Switch unter the shifter lever console d) Cut off 1/2" off all vacume lines and re-attach. e) Spray Intake Cleaner over Mass air flow screen and clean intake butterfly. Be sure to remove any carbon ridge lines. Besure to check for cracks in the Mass Air flow boot. There are crank case vacume lines which can crack. All the above acccounted for another 3-4 MPG and my LCD now accuractely dislays P/R/N/D/3/2/1). To do the above will cost you about $6 and take about 1 hour. I strongly recommend you do this if you your engine has a lot of miles on it. Chance are you will see a noticable improvement in acceleration and MPG. |
