92' Cavailer stalls when at a stop or slowing down??Please help.....

Hello people. I have a 92' Cavalier and I am having problems with it. While driving the car is fine, but once I come to a stop I have to put the car in neutral to keep it running. Basically its fine when running. I have replaced the intake gasket, OT sensor, MAP sensor, changed plugs, and wires. I have had someone tell me it sounds like a burnt valve, but my stepdad ran an air pressure test and he said he thinks they are fine. I am at a loss right now because it is going to cost me $200.00 to replace or repair the burnt valve..... any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.......

***after reading a little bit on here I am wondering if it could be the IAT sensor? Are they on 92' cavaliers?

If you had a burnt valve it would miss a little at idle and you would not hold pressure when tested. Your valve is not burnt.

First buy a Haynes or Chiltons manual.
Your problem is most likely a dirty/sticky Idle Air Control valve or a bad Throttle Position Sensor. The IAC valve can be removed and cleaned, don't forget to clean the inside of the mounting hole. The TPS can be checked following proceedures in a manual. Good Luck.

Well, thanks for replying to my problem first off. Sadly to say though, this weekend I went and replaced both the IAC valve and the Throttle Position Sensor. I am at a loss right now. Like I said, while running it is fine. Its just that when I start to slow down or when I come to a stop it stalls and then dies. But if I keep it in nuetral while I am slowing down or while I am at a stop it is okay and will stay running. I dont know what else it could be......neither does anyone else that I have talked to. I really dont have the money to take it to a shop, and then I am worried that then they may have me replace something that may not be the problem. Anyone that has any other ideas........please help me!!!!!!! As I said before I appreciate anyone's suggestions.

Try the tcc solenoid. My 89 cavy stalled at stop lights and stop signs after I drove it for about 15 minutes. It cost me about 100 bucks to fix at a garage. Shop around though, I had a garage try to rip me off, and tell me I needed an transmission overhaul, that replacing the solenoid would only be effective for about 3 months. That was 2 years ago!

Is the TCC solenoid located on the right side of the tranny? Because if it is, some guy at AutoZone told me to unplug it and it would run better, but we did unplug it and it was no better?????? I just had some guy yesterday tell me to check my fuel filter and maybe the pump? Do u think that could be the problem? Thanks, Kim

Hi, same problem. Narrowed it down to the tcc selenoid in the tranny. That's your problem.

The tcc solenoid on my car is located behind the front drivers side fender down towards the bumper behind the tire well cover. Check www.v6z24.com and click on how to. Scroll down to repair/maintenence. When the page loads, scroll down to tcc solenoid. If you know how to fix it, it gives you step by step instructions on how to. Or at least, you can save yourself the diagnostic charge at the garage. Mine is a 89, so yours might be different. Although I think between 89 and 94 are very similar, just a few changes, mostly in the body shape.
