Please Help Me

Hello everyone im just new to this forum i was wondering if anyone can help me? I have a mark 1 golf it wont start but it is trying to turn over i put a almost new distributor in it i put a new coil in it i have put petrol in it all the leads are working fine im getting spark im getting power everywere it is just not starting is there anyone out there can help me?

Could you be a bit more specific about which MK1 you have ie fuel injection or carb etc.

Hi thank you for getting back to me i have a mark 1 golf it is a 1.3 litre engine with a carb no fuel injection someone told me it could a sensor right below the carb i dont know any help from you would be greatly appreciated

Will it run for a minute if you spray starting fluid/ether into the carb while cranking?

No ive tryed that too i have tryed everything but i think it could just be somthing stupid i dont know. loland were i live there is not a godd mechanic only a dealership were they would charge me 100bucks per hour thanks any way

Are you sure the spark is making it to the plugs, if you only checked at the coil wire it could be grounding at the cap/rotor. If that's okay then recheck your distributor timing.

If you do have spark are you sure you didn't swap your leads 180 deg when you replaced the leads also is your order on the leads correct (1342)?


Does it ever backfire through the carb when you spray starting fluid into the carb?

yeah fanie ive tryed everything the cables are on correctly i just dont know how to fix this problem. well im going to go work on it a little more i will keep everyone informed on how i get on
