97 2500 with 350 keeps going through fuel pumps?
My uncle has a 1997 2500 with a 350 in it. He got the truck used, but since has had to put in 3 fuel pumps(the last one just crapped out 2 days ago after he just filled the tank). This last fuel pump only lasted 10k miles. I was wondering, has anyone else had this problem? Thanks

The brand of fuel pumps that I sell, recomends that you completely empty the fuel tank, clean it very well, let it dry completely, install a new pump, strainer, and fuel filter. In the past reoccuring fuel pump problems have been caused by not getting all of the junk out of the tank and that same junk killing the new fuel pump.

I would check the wiring for your fuel pump..a bad ground or loose connection can cause failures.
Plus always replace the fuel filter

Re: 97 2500 with 350 keeps going through fuel pumps?
Had a 98 K3500 that went thru about 5 fuel pumps before it was traded in at 82,000 miles. I only put GM fuel pumps back in it and changed the fuel filter every 12,000 miles (or sooner!). Cost each time...$600 + !!!
Never did find out the problem. Good luck. |

Re: 97 2500 with 350 keeps going through fuel pumps?
My 97 k1500 5.7 used two fuel pumps in a year and a half.
The first was on the road and I forgot to get the old one. But the next one I replaced myself and afterward I did a post mortem on it the motor of the pump was locked up and the plastic area around the windings/commutator was melted. After I pulled the motor from the pump, The pump part was free and had nothing in it, no junk. So mine died from heating up too much. I did run the tank low a number of times before, but now I fill at 1/4. I have read that the fuel keeps the pump cool. I've also read that it is not true. All I know is mine was overheated. Scary to have something in your fuel tank get too hot! Bob B |

Try having your gas tank cleaned by someone who knows what they are doing. Had the sam problem with a 57' Hudson Hornet.
