As usual, we got a model from an American manufacturer right when it was restyled. Lindberg didn't bother to update. Classic Metal Works did the new style in 1/24 but it's pretty bad compared to the Lindberg.

The popularity of the Crown Vic should have been enough for them to sell just as many of them as Impalas, but perhaps they were trying for something different so I'll give them that much. Let's just say if this exact kit had been a Crown Vic I would have bought at least a couple. Could easily do a Marauder from it. Impala...eh, not interested. And imagine that...the 2005 Impala kit came out right when the restyled (and much better looking) 2006 hit
Know what you mean, Bob, the current Crown Vic, is my view the only "real" American police cruiser.
Another thing I don't understand is why they always do these as generic or "low profile" police departments, I don't know how the other forum members feel or think, but in my view a CHP or NYPD are the agencies to go after, model kit companies think global in terms of kit production, it's about time their sales people do the same.
And yes I do know about all the aftermarket goodies.

Hey Luc, good to see you back here after so long

I must say that marketing decisions inside the walls of Revell often times leave me completely baffled. Oh to be a fly on the wall in that boardroom This kit has already been done as a Maisto diecast kit in Wal Mart's stores, it's an old subject (I saw two '06 Impalas yesterday in traffic, much nicer car-looks a lot like your Opel) and is a second-fiddle car in the 1:1 world, and isn't going to be particularly popular w/adult builders. This isn't like the old Caprice/Impala SS of the 90's. It's a boring FWD car that's seen mostly in fleet duty, rental car lots, and in non-enthusiast's hands. You are right about the various agencies too. I think Revell has it's back to the wall in regards to licensing, or they're being too cheap, or too timid/conservative. Had this been a 2005 CHP Crown Vic with optional NYPD markings (as decals) they'd have sold a ton of these.

Re: Revell Impala Police Car NEW 1/25 many pics

Well, you two have been to the same forums I have, so doubtless you're aware that Testors is threatening a service version of their new Charger kit -

in fact, didn't one of you break that news?

I wonder if the Charger's the kind of car to take over the Crown Vic's mantle...

Regardless, I'll be one of the 20 or so people getting this Impala, 'cause it's banality is so novel...

Cool! That may spawn something a bit more interesting than a plain Wimpala

I'm actually happy to see Revell did a plastic Chevy Impala, becouse all the local departments around where I live have Impala's, so I finally get to make replica's in scale

I'm guessing the reason why Revell skiped on the Crown Vic. is becouse the market already has so many variations of that car in so many different scale, Motorworks has one, (Revell company) in 1:43, 1:24, and 1:18 scale, , Auto Art has a fantastic 1:18 scale Crown Vic. cruiser. actually, the more I think of it the Impala has been covered in scale very well too, Maisto has it in 1:18, 1:24, and Matchbox has a 1:64 version. I'm guessing Revell's decision to do the Impala was that they thought they could sell more of them.

Testors announced that there doing a 1:24 2006 Charger police cruiser. I'm praying that the Testors kits a good one, Testors has been like Fujimi, they brought out some great kits, and they've brought out some crap, there diecasts have been very nice (especially there Chrysler Crossfire.) and there venture into the plastic kits where terrible. if you see these kits, run as far away from them as you can. there as crappy as old Palmer kits, 1 piece motors. the 80 Firebird makes the old MPC kit look like a Tamiya kit
